Introduction to Wenzhou
Wenzhou City is located in the southeast of Zhejiang Province, bordering the East China Sea on the east, Fujian Province on the south, Lishui City on the west and northwest, and Taizhou City on the north and northeast. It is one of the first coastal cities in China to open up to the world, which is situated in the middle of the 18,000-kilometer-long east coast of the country. It also remains one of the 27 cities in the central area of the Yangtze River Delta and the economic, cultural and transportation center of southern Zhejiang. With a history of 2,207 years, the city now governs 4 districts, 3 county-level cities and 5 counties. The land area of the city is 12,110 square kilometers, the sea area 8,649 square kilometers, and the permanent resident population 9.5 million.
Wenzhou is the birthplace of Chinese non-state economic sector. Based on the innovative economic concept of “small commodities, big markets”, the city has built a “Wen Businessmen” network across the globe and created a considerable number of “No.1 in China”, serving as a special platform and bridge for products to enter the Chinese market and tap the international one. The city also has a reputation for its centennial migration history. In the past, as many Wenzhou people immigrated to Europe and the United States, they opened restaurants and did the retail and wholesale trades in their adoptive countries, thus to be famous for their entrepreneurial spirit.
Currently, by making every effort to promote economic, urban and social transformation, the Wenzhou Municipal Government strives to build a model city for innovation and growth of the private economy, an important central city along the southeast coast and a benchmark city of a moderately prosperous society in an all respects, and upholds the five development concepts of “innovation, harmonization, green, openness and sharing”. Thus a warm development environment of “being suitable for business and living” will be created for mass investors.
Introduction to ZDP
Zhejiang Dongfang Polytechnic (ZDP) is a full-time ordinary institution of higher learning directly under Wenzhou Municipal People’s Government and under the management of Wenzhou Modern Service Industry Development Group Co., Ltd., a state-owned enterprise. The predecessor of the college can be traced back to Zhejiang Dongfang Specialized School founded in 1999, and Wenzhou Dongfang Vocational School and Zhejiang Dongfang Group Technical School in 1994.
The college is located in Wenzhou City, Zhejiang Province, covering an area of nearly 1,000 mu. Currently, it boasts three campuses including Binhai Campus, Yongjiang Road Campus, Jinzhu Campus and Jinhai Jianggu School District, with more than 12,000 full-time students and over 700 faculty members. There are a number of existing teaching and R&D units, including School of Marxism, Sports Department, Further-education School, School of Finance and Economics, School of Humanities, School of Management, School of Digital Engineering, School of International Education, School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship (Ouyao School), Wenzhou Food Research Institute, Wenzhou Institute of Arts and Crafts, Jiang Ligang School (Jiang Ligang Calligraphy Culture Research and Communication Center) and others. Some special professional groups have been formed such as “medical care, recovery and elderly care”, “digit, intelligence and manufacture”, “Finance, Banking and Management”.
ZDP and the Management Committee of Wenzhou Economic and Technological Development Area (South Zhejiang Industrial Cluster) jointly set up the service platforms of the Innovation Center for Collaborative Development of Industry and Education. Among these, “Jinhai Jianggu” has been selected as the provincial demonstration base for practical education, and the South Zhejiang Base of Integration of Industry and Education of Advanced Equipment Manufacturing Industry has been rated as the provincial demonstration base. “South Zhejiang Institute of Automotive Electronics Industry” has been approved as the first demonstration base of integration of industry and education in the city, and Jinzhu Campus serves as a municipal-level training base of industry and education integration of “medical treatment, elderly care and teaching” at high level.
ZDP has made outstanding achievements, as it has been approved as the first batch of first-aid education pilot schools of the Ministry of Education and also acts as the first prize (the highest prize) winner of Zhejiang Higher Education Teaching Achievement Award. It has been awarded the first prize of the First National Excellent Teaching Material Appraisal, and named as the Excellent Talent Workstation of School-enterprise Cooperation by Wenzhou city. In addition, the rate of graduates employed in Wenzhou in 2020 was 65.34%, ranking first in all colleges and universities of this city. The satisfaction level of graduates with their alma mater totaled 97.71%, and that of employers with graduates 99.25%.
